RHA Logo
The RHA Compass represents the people and purpose behind the Residence Hall Association. Each part of the compass reflects the student leaders, center governments, and advisors who work together to support and advocate for residents across campus. While each plays a different role, together they guide RHA toward a shared mission of strengthening the residential experience and helping every resident find their way.

RHA Historical Impact
The creation of the Residence Halls Association at Indiana University marked a significant milestone. In 1960, as co-educational living centers emerged, the Men's and Women's Residence Halls Associations merged to form a single, inclusive organization. This pivotal step reflected the evolving landscape of student life during the 1960s. The new group was initially named the Inter Residence Halls Association (IRHA). After a major constitutional revision in 1969, the organization adopted the name Residence Hall Association (RHA), which became official in 1976.
